I had a chance to attend a few games this week at NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Nevada: Wed., July 12th and Thurs., July 13th. Here are my observations from some of the young potential stars I witnessed during that time.
Wednesday, July 13th
John Collins’ dunk against the New Orleans Pelicans was the dunk of the week.
Patrick McCaw of the Golden State Warriors exuded confidence from the team’s long playoff run and played great Wednesday. It’ll be hard for the Warriors to keep him next summer.
Point guard Lonzo Ball of the Los Angeles Lakers had an impressive second half in the Lakers comeback win against the Philadelphia 76ers. Ball had a number of assist that illustrated his above average ability as a passer and facilitator.
Thursday, July 13
The Memphis Grizzlies Wayne Selden showed out against the Phoenix Suns.
Dennis Smith Jr. embarrassed teams on the court and GMs off the court that passed him up in the 2017 NBA Draft. He had one of the most spectacular missed dunks you’ll ever see.
Lonzo Ball starred again on court, but two eight year old boys sitting behind me had the best commentary, including:
“Become the big baller you dad told you to be.”
“Your dad’s the GOAT.”
“Your mom created a legend, stop passing and shoot, you already have 70 assists!”
